VRChat Face Tracking: Beta Search versus Live Release Notes

Check VRChat’s current face-tracking release status, avatar requirements and debug route rather than relying on an older open-beta headline.

GUIDE · SOURCES REVIEWED

Search results still use “VRChat open beta face tracking,” but the official 2026.4.1 release notes mark October 28, Build 1936, Live and include updated face tracking. Check your client and SDK versions before treating an older beta article as the current release state.

What the release notes describe

VRChat documents a Face Tracking section in the Avatar Descriptor, OSC support and networking of 102 Unified Expressions values without using the synced-parameter budget. The notes link to creator documentation for avatar setup and mention webcam-based testing as an option.

These are documented capabilities, checked October 30, 2026. They do not establish that an existing avatar already contains the necessary blendshapes or configuration, or that every tracking device is supported identically.

Diagnose the layer first

SymptomFirst thing to inspect
Avatar shows no expression changeAvatar setup and incoming tracking values
Values arrive but motion looks wrongMapping and the avatar's shapes
Other users do not see the expected resultClient compatibility and the networked behavior

The official notes provide a Face Tracking debug tab through the Quick Menu's debug UI. Use that to distinguish missing input from an avatar mapping problem. Keep the exact client, SDK and tracking source with any bug report.

Before updating an avatar

Work on a copy, follow the linked creator instructions and check a few expressions individually before combining them. Inspect the result from another viewer when network behavior matters. Keep a known-working version so a local experiment does not become an unreviewed replacement.

Varwo has not installed the SDK, configured tracking hardware or uploaded an avatar. This guide organizes the official release status and diagnostic questions; it is not a hands-on device compatibility test.
