Kimi K3: Open Weights, Model Card and Access Routes

Kimi K3 is identified by Moonshot’s moonshotai/Kimi-K3 model card. Choose the exact model and access route before applying specifications or prices from a newer Kimi release.

Which model are you looking for?

The literal Kimi K3 SERP contains both the Kimi-K3 checkpoint and the current Kimi app promoting K3.1 Pro. Those names are not interchangeable. This guide concerns the older K3 checkpoint; the separate K3.1 Pro cost guide addresses that different release and task.

The Moonshot model card identifies image-and-text input support, custom model code and a model-specific kimi-k3 license. Do not replace that license label with a generic permissive license or assume every serving example fits a consumer computer.

Plan the access route

NeedEvidence to review
Chat through a web appThe actual model selection and account access shown in the app
Use a hosted endpointThat provider's exact model ID, capabilities and current billing
Serve downloaded weightsModel-card runtime instructions, checkpoint files and hardware requirements

For a local plan, identify the exact checkpoint and precision, the serving runtime, context and concurrency before estimating resources. Read any custom code requirement and the license for your intended use. We have not established a minimum hardware configuration or an effective API price here.

Make a bounded comparison

Use the same input task and an explicit acceptance check across the model versions you compare. Save the model identifier and settings with the result. Publisher benchmark tables are reference evidence, not results reproduced by Varwo. A valid comparison should explain correctness and its limits rather than treating a newer version number or a larger parameter count as the outcome.
