Understand what has been reported about the South African Older Persons Grant and where to check official updates.

NEWS GUIDE · SOURCES REVIEWED

A decision on a possible 2027/28 Older Persons Grant increase has not been established by the sources reviewed here. IOL reported on November 2, 2026 that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said decisions were being considered in the budget process and changes would be announced when the budget is tabled in February 2027, after Cabinet approval. This is a news report of his parliamentary reply; it is not a confirmed increase.

Where to check your own payment

The Department of Social Development's 2026/27 announcement gives the announced payment schedule and April 2026 increase. It is an earlier announcement and should not be treated as a decision on the 2027/28 amount. SAnews subsequently reported revised November 2026 payment dates; check the latest SASSA notice for your circumstances.

A review of an individual's eligibility or payment is separate from the national budget decision about grant amounts. Use current government notices or contact a local SASSA office for your case, and never share bank details with an unverified contact.
