Dessa is Block’s speech-to-speech research model. Start with the official conversation recordings, then check whether the available access matches your project. A recorded demo is different from a public voice-generation tool.

The preview above is a recording published by Block, not a conversation or generation performed by Varwo. Block describes its examples as live conversations with captions added afterward. We reviewed the public page on October 25, 2026; we did not run the model, reproduce its training or benchmark its latency.
Block describes Dessa as an audio-in, audio-out model trained from human conversation without a pretrained text model. Its full-duplex design means listening and speaking can overlap, rather than waiting for an entire spoken turn before responding. The company also describes inference on a MacBook Pro M4 Max or better. These are provider statements, not hardware results measured here. Source: Block’s model explanation.
That distinction matters when choosing a voice workflow. A conversational model decides what to say and when; a narration tool usually starts with a script and an intended reading. A natural conversational demo does not establish narration controls, voice cloning, export options or production availability.
| Your goal | What the reviewed official page provides | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Hear the model | Public conversation recordings | Open the recordings and compare how it handles pauses, overlap and changes in tone. |
| Evaluate it as a researcher | A contact route for a small group of AI safety researchers | Read the access section and describe your evaluation needs if you choose to contact the team. |
| Build an app with an API | We did not find public API setup or pricing on the reviewed page | Wait for published developer access rather than designing around an assumed endpoint. |
| Run it on your own Mac | A local-running claim, without a public installation workflow on that page | Look for an actual model release, licence and runtime instructions before treating it as installable. |
| Produce a voiceover today | The page presents conversation research, not a public script-to-voice workbench | Evaluate an available narration product such as ElevenLabs. |
Access notes above are limited to Block’s reviewed launch page. They do not establish that no private integrations exist. A contact link is not automatic approval or a guaranteed waitlist place. Varwo has not submitted an access request.
Choose one official recording and focus on a concrete question rather than the overall impression of a human-sounding voice:
This is an editorial review method, not a completed listening benchmark. If you later obtain access, test with your own permitted audio and predefined questions, including interruptions and recovery from a misunderstood word.
As checked on October 25, the reviewed launch page does not publish a consumer subscription price, API token/minute price or downloadable-weight licence. Record these as not verified, rather than free, open source or commercially cleared. Return to the official page for release and access changes before committing to an integration.
For an immediately available video workflow, separate the requirements: draft the script, generate narration in a service that supports your needs, then align the recording in CapCut. That route creates an edited voiceover; it does not reproduce Dessa’s live conversation behavior.
This guide concerns the model introduced on Block’s Dessa page. Use the provider and source URL to distinguish it from other people or products with the same name.
The presence of a public recording does not establish a reuse licence for your project. Check the recording’s permissions and the rights to any input or voice you intend to use.
No download workflow was verified on the page reviewed here. Hardware capability, publicly released weights and an installable application are separate questions.
Official information checked October 25, 2026. Product access and licensing may change; the linked provider remains the source for current terms.
Check that a tool accepts the inputs you need before you pay.
