BIMCraft: Identify the Project, Downloads and IFC Checks
Distinguish IPedrax/BIMCraft from CadCraft’s BimCraft, then choose the right source and verify your model workflow on a copy.
Searching BIMCraft currently returns more than one project identity. The IPedrax/BIMCraft repository describes a Rust application inspired by the Revit workflow. CadCraft's BimCraft page points to a different repository, getcadcraft/bimcraft, and a browser/Studio distribution route. Do not mix installers or assume that their version numbers and documentation are interchangeable.
Identify the one you mean
| Identity | Verified source | What to use it for |
|---|---|---|
| IPedrax/BIMCraft | The IPedrax GitHub README | That project's features, downloads and setup |
| CadCraft BimCraft | CadCraft product page and linked repository | Its browser app and CadCraft Studio route |
IPedrax describes levels, walls, doors, views, sheets, IFC exchange and commands for agents. The repository exposes Apache-2.0 and MIT licence files; inspect the relevant files before redistributing components.
CadCraft describes model review/editing, IFC input and saving, property changes, schedules and clash checks. Its desktop route is inside CadCraft Studio rather than a separate BimCraft installer. The product page distinguishes RVT project information/preview from IFC editing; a preview is not proof of native Revit authoring compatibility.
Check a BIM workflow before relying on it
Use a non-critical copy with known units, levels, a wall, a door and a few required properties. Open the model, inspect its geometry and properties, make one change, save it, then reopen the exported file in the receiving application.
Compare the elements that matter to your exchange: placement, units, identifiers, classifications and required properties. Keep the original file. A model that looks right in 3D can still be missing information needed by a collaborator.
Is it a Revit replacement?
That depends on your required workflow. A familiar interface or IFC feature list does not establish support for your families, add-ins, worksharing or native files. Make those specific requirements the acceptance criteria for a trial rather than treating a broad “alternative” label as compatibility evidence.
