OmniRoute and Claude Code: Gateway Setup and Cost Limits

OmniRoute and Claude Code: Gateway Setup and Cost Limits. A source-based guide to identity, use and limits.

GUIDE · SOURCES REVIEWED

OmniRoute is an open-source AI gateway that describes routing requests from coding tools to different providers and models. The project's Claude Code documentation is the place to check its current integration instructions.

Can it make Claude Code free?

The gateway software and an upstream model are different costs. Some providers offer free tiers or quotas, but availability, terms, limits and paid fallback depend on the chosen provider. Routing through OmniRoute does not make every model or Anthropic account free. Check the selected provider's current pricing and permitted use before connecting it.

A cautious setup path

Review the project's supported installation method and the Claude integration guide, then choose an allowed provider and model. Inspect where credentials are stored and where prompts are sent. Use a limited test task, watch the provider's usage dashboard and verify the active route before relying on automatic fallback.

The repository describes an MIT licence; check the current project and provider terms. Documentation checked November 7, 2026. Varwo did not install OmniRoute or run model requests.
