What is MOSS-Image?

OpenMOSS describes MOSS-Image as a 5B-parameter text-to-image model family, with text rendering and layout generation among its intended uses. Its official repository links the code, model releases, demo, and documentation.

If your task is to create a poster, a labeled illustration, or an image with a deliberate arrangement, it is worth evaluating whether the model can produce the layout and readable text you need. Inspect actual output rather than treating a capability description as a guarantee.

The Base model card documents Python 3.10+, a compatible CUDA setup, and library requirements. A model's parameter count alone is not a reliable estimate of total VRAM: other components, precision, resolution, and offloading matter.

Prepare a local run

Read the current model-card quick start before installing. Create a separate environment, install its specified PyTorch and library versions, and follow its pipeline example. Its custom-pipeline route uses remote model code; inspect that code and the revision you select before trusting it in your environment.

Start with one modest test image and a known seed. Save the model revision, prompt, negative prompt, dimensions, sampler, steps, guidance, and any memory options with your result. This gives you a useful debugging record and a fair basis for comparison.

Do not copy configuration from an unrelated diffusion model just because the files have the same extension. Use the instructions attached to the selected MOSS-Image release.

Three prompt ideas for a useful first evaluation

These are original starting prompts, not generated-image examples or guaranteed outputs. Use subjects and reference material you have permission to use.

1. Check text accuracy with a small poster

A clean square poster for a fictional neighborhood book exchange.
Warm cream background, a simple blue illustration of three books,
and one large readable heading: "BOOK SWAP".
Below it, place the exact text "SATURDAY 10 AM" on a separate line.
Leave generous space around both lines and avoid extra lettering.

Inspect every letter at full size. Check whether the heading is present, the date line is correct, and the model invented any unwanted words.

2. Check object placement

A flat editorial illustration on a pale background.
Place a red watering can on the left, a small green potted plant
in the center, and a folded yellow towel on the right.
Keep the three objects separate, with no text or additional objects.

Score the result against the three positions and the absence of extra objects. Write the criteria before seeing the image.

3. Check layout revisions

A minimalist event poster with a large blank central area for later editing.
Place a small navy crescent moon near the top and a thin amber border.
Use restrained decoration, a vertical composition, and no text.

Change one requested layout feature at a time. Keeping the other settings fixed helps you learn which change affected the result.

When natural-language prompts are not enough

The user guide documents experimental JSON layouts. It defines centered pixel coordinates and a yxyx box order. A box copied from another canvas or a different coordinate convention can describe the wrong region.

Begin with plain language. If precise placement is the real requirement, use the documented layout format and canvas dimensions, and validate the resulting image against the requested boxes. A valid JSON object does not prove visual compliance.

Compare variants without inventing a benchmark

Use the same original prompts with Base and SFT. Keep a small scorecard for exact text, object count, placement, visible artifacts, elapsed time, and peak memory if you measure it. Record settings with every output.

Choose the model that best completes your actual task. This guide does not assign quality scores or claim that MOSS-Image outperforms another image model.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moss photo library?

This page is about the OpenMOSS image-generation model. It does not offer a collection of nature photographs.

Can I generate an image here?

No model runs on this page. Use the linked project demo when available, or follow an official local setup route.

What if my output text is wrong?

Reduce the amount of text, state the exact words and line breaks, and inspect the result. For production material, edit and proofread the final image; do not publish unchecked lettering.

Where do I check the license?

Read the license associated with the exact code and weights you download. The linked Base card labels that release Apache-2.0; that does not grant rights to third-party logos, reference photos, or other material you add.
